About Us

SlugSat is a student-run organization with the mission of educating and developing the next generation of space industry professionals right here at UC Santa Cruz. To do this, we are developing a small satellite, known as a CubeSat. This satellite was selected as part of NASA’s CubeSat Student Launch Initiative, and will be deployed from the International Space Station later next year.

Why a satellite? We see it as the perfect opportunity to jump right into the sace industry, by immediately sending something into orbit! SlugSat takes a very hands-on and open approach to our development. By using an open source architecture, our developments will be available for anybody to build off of in the future.

Students at a Conference

SlugSat is not just bound to satellites! As an open, multidisciplinary club, we can and will expand into new projects of interest. Space is the common passion of all SlugSat members, and we hope to continue to grow our project pool and membership.
